Benjamin "Kokoy" Romualdez ( Manila , September 24 1930 [1] - Makati , February 21 2012 ) was a Filipino politician , diplomat and businessman. He was the younger brother of former first lady Imelda Marcos .

Romualdez was born on September 24, 1930 in the Philippine capital Manila. He was the second child of Vicente Romualdez and his second wife Remedios Trinidad. His political career began when he was elected in 1967 as governor of the province of Leyte , a position he would hold until February 1986. In the '70s and '80s, he was next to his governorship by his brother Ferdinand Marcos successively appointed Ambassador of the Philippines to the United States from 1956 to 1967, China from 1976 to 1978, and Saudi Arabia . He also acquired a significant stake in dozens of major Philippine companies. During the reign of Marcos In February 1986 Romualdez fled after a massive popular uprisingalong with Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos to the United States . Romualdez was married to Juliet and Gomez had with her three sons and a daughter. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez is also a politician and was the 2007 elections elected as member of the Philippine House of Representatives on behalf of the first kiesdictrict Leyte. His son Benjamin Philip took charge of Benguet Mining from his father. His third son, Daniel. His daughter is married to Thomas Marean Pompidou, the grandson of the former French president Georges Pompidou .
