John Cephas ( Washington DC , September 4th 1930 - March 4th 2009 ) was an American blues guitarist . Along with harmonica player Phil Wiggins, he formed the duo Cephas & Wiggins .

The two met each other during a jam session in 1977 and played together in Wilbert "Big Chief" Ellis' band. Their first album dates from 1981 and was the beginning of a whole series.Cephas was in 1989, the National Heritage Fellowship .
