Napoleón Isabelo Veloso Abueva ( Tagbilaran , January 26 1930 ), better known as Napoleón Abueva , is a Filipino artist . Abueva was in 1976 , the Filipino national artist award in the category of sculpture . He has been called the father of modern Philippine sculpture. Some of the famous works of the hand of Abueva his The Transfiguration in the Eternal Gardens , theNine Muses at the University of the Philippines , The Structure at the entrance of the building of the United Nations in New York City and sunburst in the lobby of The Peninsula Manila Hotel[1] .
