Plastic Ono Band is the collective name for a changing group of musicians created by John Lennon and Yoko Ono and the duo accompanied on some albums and during performances.

Biography[Edit][]
After Beatle John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono in 1968 and 1969 the two experimental albums Two virgins and Life with the lions had recorded, they decided their further work under the name Plastic Ono Band to bring out. This group would exist from themselves, plus the musicians who accompanied them, whoever would be. That this could be everyone, they made clear with the ad "You are the Plastic Ono Band". They also emphasized In interviews that everyone was a member of the Plastic Ono Band.
The first single which appeared under the name Plastic Ono Band was Give peace a chance in 1969. This single was recorded on 1 June in room 1742 of the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal during their second Bed-In. On a question from a journalist Lennon replied: "All we are saying is give peace a chance". This rule inspired him to write a song about. A few days later, the song was recorded with all when guests present. In the choir include psychologist Timothy Leary, Petula Clark, singer, comedianDick Gregory and to hear Rabbi Abraham Feinberg , in addition to all the journalists, staff and members of the Hare Krishna who at that time were in the hotel room. The messy recording was released as a single and became a huge hit all over the world. In the Netherlands the song even took out first place of the top 40. During the presentation of the single were John Lennon and Yoko Ono to the press itself is not present. The Plastic Ono Band was then presented as four hollow pillars of plexiglasswhere, among other things, a microphone, an amplifier and a tape recorder were responsible. The columns, the four members of The Beatles were for and an idea of Yoko Ono.
On september 13, was made the first concert of The Plastic Ono Band in Toronto. At that time, the band alongside John and Yoko from Klaus Voormann (ex-Manfred Mann), Alan White (ex-Alan Price Set) and Eric Clapton (ex-Yardbirds, Cream and Blind Faith). In almost the same line-up recorded the single " Cold turkey ; the only difference was that Ringo Starr played drums in place of Alan White. This single did not know to take the success of its predecessor. John Lennon sent on 25 november1969 are Royal honour back to Queen Elizabeth. In a note he gave three reasons: the British performance in the Nigerian civil war, the support for the Viet Nam war in theUnited States and the fact that Cold Turkey on the decline was in the chart.
The recordings were released after Cold Turkey followed, under names like John Lennon & the Plastic Ono Band or John & Yoko & The Plastic Ono Band. Although the musicians Klaus Voormann and Alan White nuns granted, often their cooperation to recordings of John and Yoko. The name Plastic Ono Band was then used until the album Mind games . The albums John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Imagine , in contrast to the more experimental albums received critical acclaim and were commercial successes. The albums also supplied some classics as Imagine, Mother, Jealous guy and Working class hero. In addition appeared still the singles Instant karma!, Power to the people and the Christmas song Happy Xmas (War is over). Starting from John and Yoko brought their 1973 record from citing only their own names.
After John Lennon on december 8, 1980 was murdered, were posthumous hits the Plastic Ono Band- Imagine and Happy Xmas (War is over) re-released. The songInstant karma! was a hit again in 1992 , after it was used in a Nike's advertising . In addition the song Give peace a chance in a hit again in the 1991 version of the Peace Choir. This was a charity project by Yoko Ono, her then-15-year-old son Sean Lennon and Lenny Kravitz, following the Gulf war. On this single were Terence Trent D'Arbyamong other things also, Cyndi Lauper, Little Richard, LL Cool J and Dave Stewart to hear.
