Trent D'Arby scored above all end eighties some big hits. With Wishing Well , he scored a number 1hit in 1987 in Netherlands and the USA. Other well-known songs includeSign your name, Dance little sister, Rain, Delicate and Holding on to you.
In the eighties he was as American soldier stationed in Germany. There he joined a band called The Touch. After he had left the army, he moved to London, where he took up his demo tape. Thanks to this demo he got offered a contract at CBS Records. His debut single If you let me stay was a big hit in Europe.
In 1987, he released his debut album Introducing the Hardline according to Terence Trent D'Arby from. He claimed in interviews that this album was the best since Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by the Beatles. This comment earned him in the United States and Great Britain much publicity on. the singles If you let me stay,Wishing well, Dance little sister and Sign your name be big hits around the world.
His second album Neither fish nor flesh, subtitled A soundtrack of love, faith, hope & destruction from 1989 was less enthusiastically received. The album sold over 2 million copies.
In the 1990s were still released Symphony or damn Vibrator (1993) and (1995), whose Delicatesingles, a duet with Des'ree, and Holding on to you are the best known. Also the song Let her down easy knew in 1993 to get the charts and has been covered twice by other artists. He remained active in the music. So he joined in 1999 as Deputy leader of INXS at the opening of the Olympic Stadium in Sydney. Later that year, he played Jackie Wilson in the American miniseries Shake, rattle and roll.
On 4 October 2001 he changed his official name in Sananda Maitreya. Under this name he brings in 2001 from the album Wild card! . The number O Divina is a modest hit in Italy where he now lives with his Italian wife.
On 29 July 2005, he released the album Angels & Vampires-Volume I through his official website. It is completely for sale as MP3-album. In 2006 came the sequel, titled Angels & Vampires-Volume II. In October 2007 it was released as a double cd, only available through his official website.
Also in October 2007, the first chapter of his next project, Nigor Mortis, came online. The full album was released on May 20, 2009, as well as MP3-album as cd.
